Constantine To Rock Joe’s Pub

Constantine will play two shows at NYC’s Joe’s Pub this fall. The dates are September 23 and October 14.  Both shows will be at 9:30 p.m.

“A Night at the Rock Show Starring Constantine Maroulis” is described on Joe’s Pub website:

Constantine Maroulis, the TONY-nominated star of the smash Broadway hit, ROCK OF AGES, announces that he will launch A NIGHT AT THE ROCK SHOW, a series of performances at New York’s famed Joe’s Pub. A NIGHT AT THE ROCK SHOW will feature Constantine’s unique interpretations of some of the greatest rock songs of all time. He’ll be backed by an all-star band. Entertainment Weekly said of Maroulis’ performance in ROCK OF AGES: “Constantine so fully embraced the classics that even doubters will be wiping tears from their Wayfarers.”

Joe’s Pub is located within the Public Theater at 425 Lafayette Street.  For tickets, priced $20, call (212) 967-7555 or visit www.joespub.com.

Constantine Fights for Paula Abdul?

It seemed like things were fine and it was quiet the next morning. But then different reports and versions started appearing. And finally, this morning, an article appeared at the UK E!Online that provides an entirely different look at what might have happened.  According to Breanne L. Heldman, Constantine was overheard saying something along the lines that he hoped Paula Adbul would eventually return to American Idol.  That is supposedly when a well dressed man pushed him to the ground and started throwing punches.

Yes, the Paula Abdul angle has given a new whole new life to this story.  Read the entire article at E!Online here.

Most importantly, Constantine appears to have come out of it no worse for the wear.  Reports from people at Rock of Ages last night were that he looked and sounded as great as usual.

Rock of Ages Press Day

This past Tuesday was press day for Rock of Ages. Journalists and photographers attended a special rehearsal session. Lots of write-ups, pictures, and videos were made available right afterwards including:

BroadwayWorld.com

Photo Coverage: ‘ROCK OF AGES’ Meets the Press

Constantine Maroulis, (“American Idol” Season 4, Broadway’s The Wedding Singer, RENT) reprising his critically acclaimed role as “Drew”, Amy Spanger (The Wedding Singer, Kiss Me Kate) as “Sherrie” and James Carpinello (Saturday Night Fever, VH1′s “So NoTORIous”) as “Stacee Jaxx” head up ROCK OF AGES, the cast met the press at the New 42nd Street Studios on March 3, 2009 and BroadwayWorld’s cameras were there!

I like that wording “critically acclaimed role” – yes!

Loads of nice pictures there including:

And this nice close up of the man himself – so serious.

Lots more of the article and pictures are at Broadway World.

At Broadway.com, there is an “In Rehearsal” on demand video. To locate the video, just use the scroll arrow below the video to locate ROA.

This screencap is from the video when Drew and Sherrie are singing “High Enough” – absolutely one of the best moments in the show.

Valentine’s Day Weekend

Friday, Feb. 13

Constantine was a guest at the “Love Songs” series currently playing at Sardi’s. The series is being performed by singer James Barbour. Morgan James was also a guest.

Accompanied by Ben Phillips on the guitar, Constantine sang three songs:

Only One You
Fading Into You
Hallelujah

It was fun to see Constantine perform at the legendary Sardi’s. The room was full, probably 50% of the crowd was there because of him. Hope he does more of that kind of show in NYC.

Saturday, Feb. 14

Valentine’s Day, Constantine and Ben performed at the Ocean County Library in Tom’s River, NJ. The room had some of the best acoustics and sound system that I have heard in a long time. It was a packed house that enjoyed the evening of song and fun banter.

This was the set list although the songs were not necessarily in this order.

Child, You’re the Revolution
Message in the Bottle
Several Thousand
Only One You
(Every Breath You Take) I’ll Be Watching You
T-Shirt Song
Right to My Head
Fading into You
Livin’ On a Prayer
Don’t Let Me Down
I Can’t Make You Love Me
Hallelujah

Midnight Radio
Heaven Help the Lonely

New to me was “I’ll Be Watching You” (Every Breath You Take). The audience seemed to really enjoy this song especially when Constantine did the big glory note – “pleasssseee” – you know that one. Lots of applause.

Something I really enjoy in these shows are the new spins that Constantine puts on songs that have been part of his shows for awhile. He has a way of adding a skat runs, or a different note grouping and it sounds brand new.

Constantine to Guest at Love Songs Concert

Constantine will make a special appearance at James Barbour’s new concert series, Love Songs at Sardi’s, on Friday, February 13. An article ran about this today on BroadwayWorld.com.

Concert time is at 9:30pm. Dinner seating is at 8:30pm.

Concert tickets may be purchased online at: www.SmartTix.com or by calling 212-868-4444. Tickets cost $60 (Premium Seating), $45, $25 (There is a $25per person food/drink minimum).

Will He Be a Funny Valentine?

Constantine will be performing this Valentine’s Day, February 14th, at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library. The show is scheduled to begin at 7:00 and seating is limited. As I was preparing this post, I found that only 21 seats remain.
