It’s Tony Time !!!!

In a few hours, I will be leaving New Jersey and crossing the river to go to the Tony Awards.   I’m thrilled because I have wanted to go to this show for many years.  I guess it took Constantine being nominated to get me to commit to going.

It’s going to be fun to see all of this happening live.  Of course I’ll be routing for Constantine and Rock of Ages to win.  But just knowing they have all received nominations for their work and they will be a part of the show is good also.

I’ll report back on what goes on.  Hope everyone will be watching the show tonight on television.  Check for  red carpet information on the Tony website.

The Eve of all that is Tony - or Saturday - Tony Week

In between the events of this busy week leading up to the Tony Awards on Sunday, Constantine and the cast of Rock of Ages have been in rehearsals for the Tony Show as well as still doing their regular schedule of Broadway shows.

On Saturday, the 63rd Annual Tony Awards eve celebration cocktail party was held at Montenapo Restaurant.  Here is a photo of Constantine arriving at the event:

And here he is with Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League.

Finally, an article in the New York Post titled ‘Idol’ Goes to the Tonys is online this morning.

HE didn’t quite sweep “American Idol,” but Constantine Maroulis, who belted “Bohemian Rhapsody” out of the box, is living out his rock ‘n’ roll fantasy: On Broadway. 8 times a week, he’s all long hair and leather in “Rock of Ages,” a big fat kiss to the big-hair bands of the ’80s. Not only is the show up for a Tony Award tonight, but so is Maroulis, its frontman in more ways than one. This long-haired son of Brooklyn and Jersey just won’t stop believing.

Thursday - Tony Week - Constantine Sings on the Today Show

Constantine was a guest on the segment of the Today Show hosted by Hoda Kotb and Kathy Lee Gifford this past Thursday, June 4th.  A contest, Everyone has a Story,  honored John and Gloria Dawson that morning.   Constantine sang a special song written for the occasion.

The song is titled “He Only Has Eyes for Me.”  It tells the story of a father’s devotion to his child.

Constantine will be recording the song and it will become available for downloading on iTunes with proceeds going to charity.

The story of John and Gloria Dawson was very moving as was the song.  View the entire segment here.

Wednesday - Tony Week - America’s Hottest Rocker Mom Contest

On Wednesday, still in Tony week, Constantine was a judge for America’s Hottest Rocker Mom Contest hosted by the IFC television network.  Held in NYC’s Madison Square Park, Constantine joined Sebastian Bach and Bethenny Frankel.  Also serving as judge and jury were the IFC Z Rock cast members Paulie, David, and Joey.  The contest was held celebrate season two of Z Rock.

Contestants sang as they presented themselves to the judges.

Debra Diamant was named the winner.  Looks like everyone had a rocking good time!

Tony Week - Tuesday

Something a little different for a Constantine fan to see is him going to a salon and getting “done up?”  Would that be the term?

It seems that on Tuesday, Constantine went to the Ricardo Rojas Salon in New York City for his Pre-Tony Awards Rockstar Rejuvenation Makeover.  Note: I didn’t invent that phrase, it was on the Getty photo captions!

This picture shows him receiving the Salon’s Signature Deep Conditioning treatment from Ricardo Rojas.

He also received an Intraceutical Oxygen Treatment.  Here is Colleen Runne administering it.

There are a lot more pictures available on Getty Images about this salon visit.

Tony Week - Monday

The week before the Tony Awards is a busy one in New York City.  Constantine has been spotted at several events in addition to his regular nightly shows of Rock of Ages.

This Monday, he attended the American Theatre Wing Spring Gala.

Then he was back to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre for Rock of Ages and a little photo op with Paris Hilton.

‘Rock of Ages’ Original Broadway Cast Recording Available on iTunes June 2

CBS to air Tony Awards Preview Show Tonight

Constantine and Amy Spanger will be representing Rock of Ages on tonight’s broadcast of the Visa Signature Tony Awards Preview Concert.

The pair will be shown singing “High Enough” from Rock of Ages which has been nominated for 5 Tony Awards.

The show is scheduled to be shown at 7:00 p.m. tonight in the NY area.  Check the CBS website for more information and possible affiliate stations.

There is a video on Broadway.com that shows highlights from this evening’s Broadcast that was filmed at the Hudson Theater a little over a week ago.

This show is a terrific way to get a look at all the nominated shows and a chance to see Constantine and Amy give a very special performance of one of the finest ballads in their show.

From ‘Idol’ to Stardom

From ‘Idol’ to Stardom - A Night out with Constantine Maroulis is an article that appears this weekend in the New York Times.  Written by Wendy A. Lee, it begins with this:

BACKSTAGE at the Brooks Atkinson Theater, Constantine Maroulis inspected the contents of his dressing-room minifridge: a liter of Coke, one bottle of Champagne and two cans of, yes, Rockstar Energy Drink.

“It’s just like my apartment,” said Mr. Maroulis, 33, the leading man in the musical “Rock of Ages” and a former “American Idol” contender, before exiting into a scrum of female fans.

As Drew in “Rock of Ages,” Mr. Maroulis plays a bartender who wails big-hair hits from the 1980’s while struggling to become famous. As a singer and actor with an album, a devoted (albeit modest) following, and a Tony nomination for best performance by a leading actor in a musical, Mr. Maroulis is faultlessly polite, self-effacing and even melancholy.

“Oh, I’ll never win,” he said. “I’m pretty sure it will go to the guys from ‘Billy Elliot.’ ”

Broadway Show League Opening Ceremonies Held in Central Park

The Broadway Softball League officially kicked off the 2009 season on Thursday, May 28th.   Constantine was a part of the festivities as he sang The National Anthem.

Also a part of the opening festivities were Hunter Foster, Haydn Gwynne, Andy Karl, Greg Jbara, and Jeff Daniels among other theater favorites.

A check for $10,000 was presented to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids from the League.

Then it was time to throw out the first ball of the season.

Constantine’s Rock of Ages team went on to defeat the Blue Man Group team 15 - 4 in their season opener game later that afternoon.  Congrats ROA!

The League plays on Thursday afternoons on the Hecksher Fields in Central Park which lie just inside the park at Central Park West and 63rd Street.
