Broadway World’s Most Recent Articles with Constantine Show His Versatility

As The Toxic Avenger was preparing to open in Houston, BroadwayWorld.com published two articles about Constantine, both of them by Pat Cerasaro.

The first one,
Constantine Maroulis – from Rent to Idol to Rock of Ages, Toxic Avenger & Beyond starts out with: “Today, as a special corollary column to this weekend’s extensive InDepth InterView with Tony-nominated stage and screen star Constantine Maroulis, we are shining a special spotlight on his career trajectory as he has risen up through the ranks to become one of the most successful alumni of AMERICAN IDOL from humble beginnings in the non-Equity tour of RENT to now. Since essaying the role of Roger in that landmark Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical, Constantine has carved out a unique niche in the Broadway landscape as one of most charismatic and compelling performers of rock-based musical theatre, who has also shown considerable skills tackling the more diverse scores of shows such as Jacques Brel IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS, THE WEDDING SINGER, and, now, THE TOXIC AVENGER, co-composed by the Tony-winning team behind MEMPHIS comprised of Bon Jovi’s David Bryan and Joe DiPietro.” The article has a collection of videos that go back as far as Constantine’s performance of Bohemian Rhapsody on American Idol. It’s a fun opportunity to revisit some of the moments of his career to date. Read more at broadwayworld.com.

The second article is an interview that Cerasaro did with Constantine during the rehearsal period for Toxic Avenger. Titled Constantine Maroulis Talks THE TOXIC AVENGER, ROCK OF AGES Film, AMERICAN IDOL & More this interview is a nice long one where Constantine talks about his new role in The Toxic Avenger. But he also goes back to the days when he toured as Roger in the Non-Equity production of Rent, how he met John Rondo and some information about his work with the movie version of Rock of Ages. This is probably one of the most comprehensive interviews in print I’ve ever seen with Constantine.

First Photos from Houston of Constantine as The Toxic Avenger

Photos showing The Toxic Avenger cast were released today. Here is one of Constantine as he plays Melvin Ferd.

As cute as Melvin is, he does a dramatic transformation into the Toxic Avenger after he is dumped into a vat of toxic sludge. He comes out looking like this:

Constantine is wearing a specially designed body suit for the role. What an amazing look.

Constantine to Star in Toxic Avenger – Alley Theatre, Houston

Constantine’s newest theatrical venture will be playing the lead role in The Toxic Avenger. The show is scheduled to open on January 13th at the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas.

The show is described as:

a zany love story and laugh-out-loud musical that has it all – an unlikely hero, his beautiful girlfriend, a corrupt New Jersey mayor, an onstage band, and two guys who play … well, everyone else … bullies, mobsters, old ladies, and stiletto-wearing back-up singers.

In a recent interview, Constantine said this about his role:

“I play Melvin Ferd. He’s an earth scientist who hopes to rid New Jersey of all its pollution and toxic waste. There’s a corrupt mayor involved and some goons. They end up throwing him in a vat of toxic goo, and he becomes this seven-foot monster out for vengeance. He’s in love with this beautiful and delicate librarian who happens to be blind,”

‘Loukoumi’s Celebrity Cookbook’ Launch

The children’s book series about a lamb named Loukoumi now has it’s own cookbook. Loukoumi’s Celebrity Cookbook by Nick Katsoris, Cat Cora, Al Roker and Alexis Christoforous, had its official launch this past Sunday, Nov. 26 at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore on 86th Street and Lexington Avenue in NYC. On hand were some of those who contributed recipes to the book including Constantine:

The Loukoumi events draw families with children of all ages. Constantine’s little daughter, Malena, was on hand to help celebrate the launch of the book.

Also attending was Malena’s mom, Angel Reed. Thanks to Film Magic for this nice photo.

The Cookbook has a variety of recipes including the one for Greek Roasted Lemon Potatoes from Constantine – well actually it is his mother’s recipe.

The entire Loukoumi book series is so well written with a lot of meaning for children. They are available at major bookstores. A portion of the proceeds from the Cookbook are being donated to charity.

Constantine Talks about his Training

It’s always interesting to hear about how a performer developed their craft. This interview online at the Back Stage website has a lot of good information about how Constantine worked to hone his acting skills.

The first time I saw “West Side Story” when I was a kid, it seemed like the most magical, and real, thing to me. And I just wanted to be an actor. But I grew up singing as well, so I joined bands and I did shows. And then I really got into musical theater and straight acting. As I got older and did more professional work and worked in New York City, I realized I did want to focus my talents and audition for a professional program. There I could train with peers that were really talented and be challenged by them and sort of move away from the New York thing and come back a stronger performer. I had known some kids that went to Boston Conservatory, mainly Drew Sarich. I was like, that’s who I want to be like: great actor, presence, but an awesome singer and versatile singer. So I looked into Boston.

Lots more to read especially the part about him wishing he had taken the ballet classes a little more seriously. Go to the Back Stage website for the entire article.

Constantine Interviewed by Diana Falzone

Fallen a little behind in posting lately, but today there is so much good stuff for Constantine’s fans, that I had to drop over and do a few posts.

Here is a nice, chatty interview Diana Falzone had with Constantine recently. They are friends, so there is a nice relaxed atmosphere to the entire thing. Grab a coffee or a wine and sit back and watch this piece that goes for almost 25 minutes.
